Legal Highs

When I was younger the legal highs that were available tended to be things like Salvia, rather than the stuff that's hit the headlines recently. So I suppose I've probably viewed them in a similar category. I.e. pretty poor and hardly comparable to the real (illegal) drug. Also, having tried a few of the legal highs in my time, none of them seemed to me to pose any danger.

However, if the newspaper reports are to be believed, the stuff that's on the market now does seem to be a lot more dangerous. I'm not usually prone to conspiracy theories, but does anyone else find it odd that Ivory Wave has cropped up at the same time as yet another high ranking scientist calls for the legalsiation of drugs?

You weren't talking about scummy smack heads; they're a different case entirely. You were discussing legal (for now) highs taken by thrill seeking kids on a weekend.
Aye.. scummy smack-heads was an incorrect slang generic term..
But to say that they are thrill seeking kids on a weekend is presumptious..

If the tale of the father who leapt off a cliff thinking he could fly is true..

It would be a little judgemental to consider smack users in general, and certainly people who try legally available substances, as scum.

There are many reasons people try things out, it is curiosity in the main, peer pressure or habit for some too.

For some dependency begins in correlation with major life problems.

Each person is an individual deserving of understanding.

Tackling the social problems surrounding substance abuse is a task requiring patience and tact.

I know plenty of very anti social drinkers.

They are as problematic as anyone I have worked with who uses illegal drugs.

The criminality of addicts to non legal drugs is largely a result of illogical law, in my view.

Yep.. my bad.. People who make the choice to use drugs (some on the pretence that they are marketed as 'legal' so must be safe) and drink to excess should be held in much higher regard..
