Leeds Liverpool Canal

Having made the wild statement that I could do the Leeds liverpool canal in a day on my Fixie (it was a joke, but people took it seriously) a few of us at work have decided to give it ago (they will be on geared bikes! me and my big mouth!!!). The plan is to train it to liverpool and then stay over night before cycling back the next day.

So im after recommendations of where to stay in liverpool with all our bikes? Cheap and cheerful is good, but if we can take bikes into rooms that would be good.

Cheers in advance

Stephen

It's only about 75 miles, isn't it?
Should be able to make that in 5-6 hours-pretty much flat all the way, right. Go for it!

The stretch where i live had loads of gates on it so be prepared to get on and off the bike a lot. Wigan-Ince-Haigh-Adlington.

I guess that I forgot to take into account all the twists and turns that canal must have, 127 miles at 10-12 MPH is about 11-13 hours of riding-bring lots of food!

Living in Leeds ive done bits of it before, so sort of know what to expect, but my fixie is 700c and rigid, so think my arms are going to take a pounding. Will take it slow and just see how it goes. knowing my luck it will no doubt rain the day we do it.

Don't forget to put a bell on your bike, your going to meet a lot of walkers and slow cyclists coming up from behind, so unless you want a walking stick wrapped round your head because you startled some old codger I would put one on. And remember theirs a 15mph speed limit and the Police have started laying traps
