Laquer on nickel plated Orange.

My brother has an old well used P7, nickel plated with purple graphics. It seems that the nickel plating is laquered over which now looks really terrible and all scuffed up. However where cables etc have rubbed against the lacquer and polished it off and where it is chipped the plating looks perfect and hasn`t gone rusty despite not being used for a couple of years.

I was going to nitromors the laquer off, then polish the frame anyone tried this?
And anyone any ideas whether the old style orange decals are available (they are purple block capitals on downtube and seat tube)

Thanks

give our friends at argos a phonecall, they did one for a customer of mine and it looked absolutely poo hot when we got it back! :D

Dont Nitromors it, it will turn the nickel black!
I have exactly the same dilema, chipped lacquer and perfect nickel underneath. The problem stems back to a lack of key on the nickel plating for the lacquer to adhere to.
I think with a fresh set of decals from Gil (he did me some purple P7 ones) you will learn to live with the slightly tatty look, after all, a perfect finish usually means you wont use the bike in case it gets scratched!

just so you know i wasn't hinting at a repaint, but argos can make them look like new and original. :D

Well I got impatient before I read the forum and tried a Nitromors test patch underneath the BB and it took the laquer off without damage to the nickel plating. Not sure whether to do the whole lot or not though yet.

i basically gave up on my p7, its done no more than 100 miles, the nikel chipped so easy i stripped it, laqured it, rebuilt it, this is the last time it sore day light , 2 odd years back. i think the real reason i dont use it, ive out grown it,lol

second that, as neil young said, and I am paraphrasing "you are only enjoying and looking after something (talking about guitars but he includes all beautiful and useful objects) for the next generation you don't really own something".

And once you realise you don't really own anything the only thing left is to use and enjoy it while you have it and you cannot do one thing without the other- If you want to just look take a picture and then give it to someone who will respect the bike by using it.

JMHO no offence inteneded :)
