Laptop probs

an addendum to this is if you have a copy of a linux based operating system on cd, you can usually boot from the cd and use it to recover vital files and save them to a memory stick.

Fortunately there isnt really anything important on it, all pics are already backed up on cd and she really uses it for games and social networking.

Its in Ben's kitchen now so he can work his magic :)

Quick look and quick tests.

Harddrive is dead :(
(Using Hirens to boot to USB and then toshiba drive tool, it say FAIL instantly, others also just cannot see/fail it)
put hardrive in my laptop and its same error.
Test computer is fine, put my drive in and it boots fine
Usual fudges to get it to work, do not work. Drive is actually just spinning, not reading anything or trying to)

If you still have warrenty on the computer then try that route ? I'm guessing it's around 1998, so if 3 years you may be in luck.
If not a replacement drive (from ebuyer down the road, your wife will know it well ;)) is about 30 to 35 quid + postage (3 to 7 quid)

or I think PC World (worse than halfords :?), but £35 for a nice drive off the web collect in store :)
