Boring I know, but can anyone recommend something in this price range?

Only (i say only) need it to do the following:
➡️ Surf the Net
➡️ Have as large a screen as possible
➡️ Play music/maybe movies
➡️ Have Windows7

Come on geeks, I know you're out there.

Anything made by IBM (Lenovo) will be the best thing going.

Failing that, Acer or Dell. But Lenovo is where life should be at.

Avoid HP, Compaq Fujitsu Siemens or Sony. It's a bugger to get bits for them when they pack up.

Not anymore i'm afraid  . They were undoubtedly the best you could buy but IBM haven't had any design input into Thinkpads now for about 4 years.

Dell is probably the best option.

Carl.

That's a proper Thinkpad, it's a pre-lenovo one.

No experiecne of Asus and Acer lappies but I have heard that they are quite variable.

Carl.

These days, they're all pretty much manufactured by the same small group of contract manufacturers (Foxconn, Quanta, Flextronics, etc) regardless of the badge.

Buy one, use it till it dies. Repeat.
