Lake effect snow in the US

A mere dusting! The start of the most severe winter Denmark had seen for sixty years working its way up my van.. I had to use a 4x4 tractor to get around!

We get that sort of thing here. Only 30km from the biggest lake in Sweden, so once we get the polar breeze, we get loads of snow. 50km down the road they get virtually none.

That is cool Matt, literally! We have one farm pretty high up that is North facing and get snowed in most winters, being inland. Of course drive 40 miles to the coast and not a drop of snow most winters!

I was on the phone to a friend in Capetown earlier and she was in 30C heat! Luckily I love the snow, and the cold.

Perhaps it is the whisky drinking.

Yeah , just a dusting - you do understand thats a garage door opening up onto 8 -9ft drifts with at least 3 -4ft of standing snow?

South Buffalo got 5' 10" of snow in one day on Monday. If Lake Erie isn't frozen and an Arctic wind is coming from the north, everything south of downtown gets nuked.

Jan. 28 - 1977 they were calling for a snow storm to hit late evening. We figured we could go skiing for the day at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville (hour and a half south of Buffalo) and be back home in Niagara Falls before it hit. It came in earlier than expected. With the high winds, it turned into something called a ground blizzard, with the wind picking up all the snow off the frozen lake and dumping it inland. Going up the lift about 2pm I saw the wall of snow coming from the north. Told my friends when we got to the top that we had to go, and we had to go NOW. They ended up calling it the Blizzard of 77. Hundreds of stranded motorist had to be rescued by crews on snowmobiles from their cars. It was an interesting drive home that day/evening/night.
