I just got a 3 man tent from Tescos for £22,used it at mountain mayhem,really easy to put up and pretty impressive for the money.
I have absolutley no idea when it comes to tents,MM was the first time I've camped out in over 10 years! but a 3 man seems about right for 1 person with a full kit bag+food
