La Peugeot - c'est fini

BTD

thanks.......this forum needs a ''Like'' button

i consider myself lucky in doing well with my first purchase
it's pretty much as i unwrapped the box...bit of polish and Autosol on the rims and pedals

i will keep as standard but - needs must - I'll be lowering the crankset

Re:

That's a very pretty bike, elegant; I love the colour!

I think that the mods or upgrades that you mention are worth considering. Retrofriction levers do feel pretty good but they are popular and hence costly. As for brakes I find Weinmann 500s not too bad in use but they are fiddly to set up...and it's pretty flat where I live so performance might be subjective! I think it would be worth thinking about some sort of dual pivot callipers. I haven't tried these myself but they are generally thought to be better (or safer) and can be relatively inexpensive; they often come up for sale in the classifieds. And you absolutely should consider changing the gearing to make the bike more tractable, and usable for you. There's no point in having 12 gears or whatever if you can only ever use half of them! Others may have a different opinion of course but I can't see any harm in changing things if the change can be reversed at a later date.

thanks for your comments and thoughts
I've decided to retain the original features but - as you say - possible 'in keeping' changes

quite happy to keep the Simplex DT shifters if i can find compatible metal levers.
Lots of ''well, this should fit'' but no actual proof
so Retroshifters may come later ... £35 is a bit much though on a State pension...haha

Brakes are ok at the moment for my speeds - been well informed about dangers of rain with chrome rims.!

biggest item atm is changing the crankset - and getting a layout compatible with

i'll prob start a thread asking for advice - all new to me

cheers...john
