Re:

Glad you managed a test ride on the big-wheeler today , nice to hear about how it was too . I have the same tyres on mine , so was good to hear what they were like .
Got mine as much because of my motorbike racing hero , as peoples reviews
The position looks a bit close , bars to saddle , is that your normal riding position mate ?

Re:

'Rocket' Ron Haslam eh? Had serious sideburns back when Wiggo was just a lad.

The tyres are great and very much like the nobby nics when they were working well (which wasn't often). On the slippy rocks the back would kick off to one side or the other, but anchor solidly as soon as it touched dirt. There was also no tendency to break away under braking, which the nics had a nasty habit of doing.

Erm, not sure about the position, it felt fine. The stem was pure guesswork / one we had here / similar dimensions to Jon's, and as he is all but the same height as me, it was worth a try.

It was hard to give an impression of the way the frame was working, as it really didn't show its personality, preferring just to get on with the job, but it corners well, handles the lumpy stuff with ease, climbs with no drama at all (or front wheel lifting) and is generally very well behaved.

Definitely need a longer ride in better conditions.

Don't we all , mate !

Yes I wanted him to win some GPs BITD , but this fella called Spencer got to the line first . and Mamola . And Gardner . And sometimes Marshall . And Schwanz . And Lawson . Have I missed anyone ? John Kocinski maybe , or was he a bit later ?
No-one , but no-one beat him on the sideburns front . Guy Martin would give him a run for his money now though . Does Liam Haslam have any ?

I couldn't tell you, as I really don't follow the sport any more.

Aren't all the young guys going towards beards these days? At least, a lot of the cyclists are.

After 30 odd years of 26" it looks strange in pictures with nothing for perspective. As if the frame is tiny on 26" wheels.

Glad you are liking this chap.

What's the comments about proportions? I'm lost and confused!

I think Mike would prefer me to look more like I'm riding in the drops of a road bike, rather than on the hoods. But then he has more flexibility and fitness than is good for a man of his age.

I didn't really give too much consideration to the bar position, concentrating more on the reach and the saddle height. I'm pretty adaptable in that respect. As it turns out, the position is all fine and dandy and when tackling some short sharp, rooty rocky climbs today I actually found the weight forward position brilliant for avoiding lifting the front wheel.

I have now fabricated and fitted a bash guard, or as it is more accurately described, and outer chain ring with the teeth filed off that stops the cranks looking 'mong'. I have also changed the position of the shifter to outside the brake lever and it is now in a very comfortable and accessible place.

I'm liking this bike a lot, and really must get it out for a longer ride.

Also, what he said.
