Ksyrium spoke question

a while ago i got a mavic ksyrium ES rear wheel, with the bladed aluminium spokes that thread into the rim, with a couple of bust spokes.

Got round to replacing them recently, fitted the new spokes, wheel is round and straight again, which is all good

however to achieve similar tension and a nice straight wheel, the two new spokes have the nipples wound in deeper than the others by a fair amount.

anyone got experience tinkering with these wheels and know what might be up? the wheel is in good shape now where it was going in the bin before so i'm not end-of-the-world worried, but i'm always interested in such things

Re:

Hi,
I too have played this game and found the same issue as you have.
My spare spokes came from an earlier style Ksyrium rear wheel that had the alloy bladed spokes but did not have the machined sections between the spokes.
I concluded that Mavic must have made minor changes to the spoke lengths as the models evolved.
Not sure this is of much use to you though, beyond knowing that someone else has come across the same problem.
My repaired rear wheel is still functioning fine though, even with a couple of slightly different length spokes.
Cheers,
Nick.

Thanks Nick, this is my thought too. Unfortunately the only "old" spoke i have loose from the wheel is horribly twisted, so i can't check. The others are all suffering from frozen nipple syndrome, so i'm leaving them well alone.

think i'll just slap it on a bike and ride it to death without worrying. the wheel cost me nothing and i've spent £8 on spokes, so no biggie
