I don't think the red would go too well with your other colours :? Maybe try and photoshop it

If you look at this picture of a recent e-Bay 1999 Hei Hei, you’ll see a somewhat different finish after the front end paint had been removed. I asked the seller about this and his reply was,
Quote, “The dark area is a bit more rough area.”

Anyway, if any paint is to end up on rojo’s frame, I think it would be best to reproduce the 1999 option (despite being a 1997 frame).

Incidentally when I had the frame I was contemplating getting it painted to - Like the custom Kona Hei Hei singlespeed below >>

When I spoke to Argos in Bristol about it they said that they would need to "etch" the std finish first for better paint adhesion. This would have meant a real possibility of never being able to recreate the original ti finish if tastes ever changed.

Strangely this didn't put me off.

Re Age ..... The Kona tech people told me it was a late 1997 frame as the frame number started with a B.

From one of the resident retro gurus:

Actually cable routing wise for a 20" Ti Kona frame that's not true. The 97 20" King Kahunas and Hei Heis have top cable routing. Why this is the case I have no idea, but they do.

Easiest way to tell between a 97 and a 98 onwards Hei Hei or King Kahuna is the serial number. 97 will be B20xxx for Hei Hei and 98 will be KH20xxx. Similarly King Kahunas will be K20xxx for 97 and KK20xxx for 98 onwards.

In for a penny in for a pound rojo - if you're going to paint it i suggest you get a decent job done (as the previous post that will mean some prep).

For what its worth I like the part paint part ti finish - the kona S/S and the serrota are great examples of it - its important to choose the right colour and get just the right amount of 'flesh' showing - Exmouth on a Saturday night should give you some guidance here

EDIT: also stays are good to leave natural as they then can't get scratched from chain suck/slap.

Suggest you son't go yellow/sky blue as it'll look like a YETI copy.

Anyhow its a great frame and I look forward to seeing what you do with it!
