Because despite the OP's best intentions, there's no point posting anything like this in and around London... It's simply paying that lurking trader's wages.

I know several things I and others have posted have been snapped up by them purely for profit. Such utterly lazy and selfish behaviour has no place here.

I know many people that do daily searches for parts/bikes and find them that way.

So I don't see the point in getting all funny about it because it was posted up in this section, as others will have found it themselves anyway.

Too many examples of stuff posted here (badly advertised, Gumtree) that sell within minutes to All Things Split .com and reappear at 3x the cost.

Plus examples of them gazumping members once private sales have been agreed, so it's tough convincing me they're an "ethical" trader serving the community

Sooooooooooooo many people split bikes though and make profit out of the sales. Some have no job so main job is splitting bikes.

Yep, as long as bikes are more profitable to sell in parts than whole, people will by them to split them and as a public forum it's a useful reference for people wanting to do that, along with saved searches.

I don't tend to bother posting up bikes that I think are likely to get split - sometimes I look through the wanted ads to see if anyone is looking for the complete bike, sometimes I just leave it if I'm not tempted myself.

I'm not against splitting bikes per se. I've bought a couple of knackered bikes this year and will ultimately karma the bits I don't use.

But when you see aggressive trading at the expense of others it's annoying and degrades bikes and parts to being a commodity. I could never treat them as such.

To be honest I just need to take a break from the forum before some aspects of the bike "scene" put me off it forever :?

If bikes were not split in first place we wouldn't find the parts that we will need to build up our bikes.
As most on here like the buzz of building up a bike from scratch and not buy a whole bike.

I have bought bikes before to get a few parts off it for a build then sold the rest of the parts.

I hope it doesn't get stripped and flipped.
You were joking right? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1990-Kona...rks-retro-mountain-bike-vintage-/251198633807

Can his IP address be blocked please?

You should have bought it yourself if you didn't want it split. That's the only way your going to stop it.

I built a full XTR / Middleburn / Hope Ti hubs & 517 rims titanium bike completely from buying bikes that no-one would buy on here taking the parts and selling the remainder. That bike (apart from the frame) cost me nothing.
However I carried on with it, due to not having the time to ride anymore, the second best things about bikes is stripping and building and selling and buying parts, so that's what I do.
I've also bought bikes where almost everypart was broken. Last week I got a GT RTS that didn't have the Royce BB that it was meant to have and it was cracked, you don't always win.
I've bought two bikes in the last week to split from eBay, people are desperate for money at this time of year. I also have another guy begging me to buy his bike on eBay for a low price. If I don't buy them someone else will.
