kona paint splatter copy

I am thinking of doing a konaesque paint splatter job on my white on-one :?:

The paint is still ok but it does have a few war wounds, and I thought that since I really loved those jackson pollock kona's BITD, then why not just splatter the on-one?

Thing is I want to make a good job of it, so anyone out there got some top tips, what paints to use splatter techniques etc...

Dr S did something similar to his frankenbike if I recall......

Good idea or bad what do you think>?

Now thats a very good question...I had thought about it as well.
Maybe not too many colours....white base with mainly black splatters and a few red?

black and red sounds good- as the comp. will be black and the decals do have a touch of red.......

Great idea

If you are going to splash the paint on from a brush i'd try Plasticote paints, sell them in little jars in B&Q, the do some mad colours including florescents, may need to thin it down a bit for splashing, try to perfect a splashing/splattering technique on a bit of scrap tube (i used an exhaust pipe for practicing orange fade), Scotchbrite the whole frame to give the paint a key then once you have done the splattering go over it with Plasticote laquer from a spray can.

Plasticote is a type of acrylic, similar to whats used on bike frames anyway so should be compatable with the existing paint

Here's mine - an 88/89 version, not sure which yet. Off-white base then graphics applied, THEN splattered with deep red and mustard....mmmmmm pure class :roll:
Makes replacing the graphics an interesting choice :cry:

That'll do nicely, pity its not a larger frame The blue/red in Gazza's post is theyear (or two) after I think. But then (in Pythonesque voice) - you might want something completely different

now that is nice mr panda- long thin streaky splatter is what I want and those colours are lush- the wife hates it so even better :twisted: thanks for posting piccies.

The streaked style of Mr Panda's 1988/89 bike (made in 88, sold in 88 and 89) contrasts with the true spatter style of the one year later 1990 Cinder Cone (made in 1989, sold in 89 and 90).

yeah anthony, had noticed it went from streaky to dotty later on- think I love the streaks better but the more splatty finish might be easier to replicate- remember at school having this wee whistle like thing that created the same effect.

Love the gold and red combo to the red white and blue is a bit to rangers for my taste

I like the way Paul Brodie streaked his red paint over the logo saying 'designed by Joe Murray'. Just his not-too-subtle way of saying 'yeah, right' perhaps?
