Kona Muni-Mula (Finished 26.09.11)

I agree its nice to keep bikes original paint and its not a bad colour, but I love the bare alu look on these - majoreyeswater's is very 8) I think that fork would look good with a polished alu frame too.

I have Started to take parts off the bike tonight. Just the bottom bracket forks and bearing cups but will have to go and get a cup removal tool. The crank bolts were a absolute nightmare. At one point i had to stand on the allen key

Oh well started now so no going back.

I have considered powder coating as a cheaper option but i am going to wait and see what the results are like of the paint strip first.

Thanks for all your advice.

OMG this is very hard work  I have put in about eight hours in already

The results are outstanding though. By no means finished but i will get there.

The blue frame is a 1999.

Kona have done this themselves, but I don't know whether they gave them a clear coat after the ball burnishing.

Yep, that brings back some painful memories. Just wait until the sanding/wire-wooling/polishing starts

Good luck and keep going

Some seriously hard graft needed but fair play for giving it a go. Its starting to take shape.

Watching with interest :D

Given that lots of painters would powder coat a frame for £30-40 and they would media blast it first, I wonder how much they would charge just to media blast one? Maybe £15? It would still need to be polished, but wouldn't that be a worthwhile investment to get all the paint out of the nooks and crannies?

Not quite finished but here's a sneaky peek. I cant believe the results  Some more fine wool and more polishing and we are there.

This has been epic and still not finished but i think it looks great :D
