Kona Lava Dome 1996 help

Hi all,

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to bike mechanics. I'm trying to refurb a kona lava dome and currently in the middle of removing everything. I've noticed a few people on here have refurb one themselves. My question is, is the stem welded onto the fork or is there a way the stem can be removed from the fork?

I can provide pics if required.

If it's stock then it will have an aluminium quill stem. You just need to undo the allen bolt in the top of the stem. If when you undo it the bolt rises up then you just need to tap it down with a hammer which should release the wedge and allow you to pull the stem up and remove it. There is a chance the quill or wedge could be stuck though....
