I'm after some help here if anyone can?

I have a Kona Kona frameset made from Columbus Zonal/Carbon. I have emailed Konatech to get some more info but they haven't been able to shed too much light on things TBH.

I have read an article which say the prototypes were made in 1993/94 http://cog.konaworld.com/archives/16
According to the article the USA frames were Easton and the EU ones Columbus although it does say Airplane and Altec 2 - not Zonal?

I've also found it here although the frame looks slightly different to mine (maybe the US version). Also the tech spec from 2004 here

The frame number is F310K0049 and under this it has 4I-139. The original response from Konatech based only on the frame number was this Made in 2003.Is it the bike in the link, http://www.klassickona.com/oldgold/2k3/2k3_kona_d.cfm Happy Trails!
After I sent them the photo below this was the response That looks 2005. Most likely a one off sample for show to see what folks though of the look.
Happy Trails!

If anyone is still reading this then your assistance would be appreciated. I'm trying to find out the year and whether it was a standard production frame - pretty much anything really.

Thanks

ah following from http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... 42#1501042

I think the 1993/4 is a read herring, that frame looks modern,

I can only see 'road' frames in the 1995 catalogue, not before but then they do call the other catalogue MTB. and then they are the Kapu and Haoli one, not a Kona Kona http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... 42#1501042 and the frames are more traditional.

looking at the 1993 catalogue http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... ogue+2003/
which is not the year I expect it to be it does suite the era much better.

EDIT:
I was looking at the 2004 'Kona' not the 'Kona Kona'
and is the 'frame shop' as in your link.
So here goes again other than toptube and the lack of intricate detail picture, I would say it is 'that' possibly a different revision

That's the same frame pictured in the link I have http://www.konabikeworld.com/bikes/fram ... e_shop.htm

And another interesting link http://cog.konaworld.com/archives/16

There are a lot of differences from my frame to the one pictured in my link though. The picture in the link is definitely the EU version as it has a Colmbus Altec sticker on it, but the sticker on mine says it's Zonal. As you said, the top tubes are different. The seat stays on mine are curved and the chainstays are flattened in the middle unlike the one in the link. The headtube of mine is also different. The cables guides are different and the rear dropouts on mine are drilled six times on each side.

I'm sure why mine is so different unless the one in the catalogue was a prototype and all the production models were like mine.

It doesn't really matter I guess but I just want answers dammit

Yes I mentioned the frame shop bit, and I'm sure the frame materials for 2004 mentions 'curve' stay. Still Altec tubing iirc (ok I just closed the document and don't want to go find it again )

The interesting link is the 'red herring' for the date and the 1993/4 is a typo/mistake and should be 2003/4.

It happens when you've been on this site too long.

EDIT thank god for 'history' in the browser
http://web.archive.org/web/200402122139 ... ations.pdf

and it CARVE stays, oops

Someone might pop along, maybe add 2003/4/5 Kona - Kona Kona to the title ?
