Kona King Kahuna

Re:

This frame is an 18" 1999 Hei Hei.

The King Kahuna has the enhanced ovalised tubing c/w gusseting on the underside of the Top & Down Tube, and orange outline to the decals - you can just make out the red outline of the Hei Hei decals in pictures 1 & 2, and the 1999 Hei Hei has a KH pre-fix.

The seller seems to know that there is a difference between the two models. I think that a bit of the confusion dates back to the 1997 King Kahuna, which had both Hei Hei decals on the Top Tube, and King Kahuna decals on the Seat Stays.

edit: frame size.

pipmeister do you know how much these cost originally back in 99? Am I correct in thinking this was top of the range for Kona that year. Out of my price range but interested to learn more as the ti Konas passed me by back in the day

Re:

The Hei Hei was £1,300 (all but 5p) for the frame only here in the U.K., and the King Kahuna was £1,600.

Cost-wise, the K.K. was top of the range in 1996 - 1999. In 2000, the Score was slightly more expensive at £1,800

You're right...of course, Pip. Was a little confused by the decalls which are 99/2000 and they didn't make a hei hei in 2000.
Then this one must have lost a lot of red paint at the front...

Anyway, if I was younger, "so much younger then today", and had the time, I would bid and drive over to pick it up myself. Been over there twice to pick up a bike...

But there seems to be an antipathy nowadays to shipping.
Or maybe it's just the fact that all really beauty's should stay at home. Actually then they ought to be send back to .....

Not all of the 1999 Hei Hei frames had the red painted Headtube. I don't know if this was a specific option available to customers.

BTW: each of the 1999 models throughout the range had a particular colour coded surround to the "Go Faster" Decals.

The 2000 range has the same Go Faster Decals, but were Glow in the Dark. I have two 2000 Kona frames, and they both still glow 18 years later  .

Pictured below is a Score's Down Tube, which gives you an idea.
