i was expecting it to go for a fair whack, theyre pretty rare. wouldnt be surprised if they did sell many of them originally cos of the place they sat in the market at a time when dh and jump/urban styles were becoming the fashion. idle speculation there, but you dont see many of them for sale.

A "whole" one went for £200 on ebay a few weeks ago. Small dent in frame, but decals were fine.

The 'small dent' bit would put off so many buyers though, its daft as most dents have no effect on a frames strength and can be easily filled but I don't even look at frames with dents :?

Not unusual to see dents on the top tube of Konas due to the geometry. Unless it's major, it shouldn't affect a steel frame.

Wow...to think it went for that much :roll: I sold my 18" version of this frame a couple of years back for around £80 ish, how times change..

I'm with Anthony with the '96 Kilauea though (Columbus Cyber?). Fantastic tubing, great colour and decal combination plus with P2's this was an amazingly light weight when built up, around 23 pounds. Much as I liked the '98 I struggled to make it that low although singlespeeding it helped a fair bit. Also as has been mentioned before, the '98 paint was utter rubbish and chipped so easily! Mine was covered with gold hammerite to mask the sins

If people want to buy a frame and throw some money at the build they'll want the best condition frame they can get, there's nothing worse than standing back from your newly finished build, looking down its lines and seeing that little dent catching the sunlight

.... And the silly old market thought that aluminium was 'better'. And it wasn't the strongest colour scheme they'd ever thought of either.

Yeah - aluminium was seen as an 'upgrade' over steel.
And that colour was too garish.

The 97' Kilauea is my fave version.
And the only one I would place a nuclear bid on, if a very nice one turned up.

I think the 97 was certainly the nicest looking, sold mine last year for £160 posted with triple butted forks nice frame but I just wasn't using it and it had sat around for ages doing nothing :? old story of too many bikes not enough time :roll:

I am looking at a 1996 bike and it does have Columbus Cyber tubing. Dont know much about this tubing - can someone enlighten me.
Why would a Cinder Cone be more highly regarded on that year - dont quite get that comment please.
This would be a retro build for me so want to get the choice right.
