Kona Hot Stars & Bars 16" Tuscon AZ

Re:

At least with that we can place the year, batch run, etc.

Ok, here's a thought...is this another disguised frame? A Ku to look like a Hot? Like the KK's to look like Hot's?

No idea why they'd do that with an aluminium frame. Just a random theory: someone call the illuminati.

Good eyes iveto1983 It most certainly is an Aluminum Ku

Serial # is KU97020-- (last 2 left out for privacy of seller)

I reached out to the guy who may have painted these and other painted "custom" Kona's back in the day. It's along shot but if I get any answers I'll let you all know.

Re:

Well that serial number is in keeping with other Ku frame numbers that I have seen. There is a 1997 19" bright orange example on here, which has the same format of numbers.

Ernie's Stars 'n' Bars 1996 Ku is the format of K09606** ect. My 1996 however somewhat departs from that format with the serial number KU0160 :? Maybe this was the transition from the fabrication moving from Altitude Cycles (formed after Mountain Goat closed) to Enigma Design and Manufacturing?

My 96 Hot is HT121 and the one that used to belong to Haggis/wadsy/etc is HT123. I always assumed that these were the earlier ones built at Altitude Cycles, but it's confusing because they have the standard Kona stamped dropouts not the ones with the Goat stamp on them, which in other respects look later (cable routing mainly).
