Kona hardtail hierarchy.

Hello Mark, are you on the lookout for a Kona now?

As you are a giant man, I would go for the Explosif or Hei Hei for their strength, my Cindercone is 19" but often wished I had a 20" as it would fitted me better for my 6'4" height, are you taller than me? if yes then go for 20" if you can.

I came sooo close back in the 90s to owning a lush Kona and stupidly ( for me ) went for a Muni Mula....

Sorry, I'm damaged goods. I hate alu hardtails.

Buy an M2 Stumpjumper....I would bet (nearly) anyone riding one blindfold they couldn't tell if it was steel or Aluminium* . Goes for most frames to be honest....except early Alloy like hard as nails Dales.

*Health and Safety might be unimpressed though.

PS I have a Carrera Vulcan 21" frame you can have :? Maybe for a pub bike?

The best value is in the frames made with heat-treated tubesets. Kilaueas and Explosifs weigh much the same - go for a Kilauea if you want an all-day, all-round sports bike, go for an Explosif if you want a full race bike, slightly stiffer than a Kilauea.

Not that Cinder Cones etc aren't good frames, but for the relatively small difference in eBay value, the lighter, pingier but equally strong heat-treated frames are well worth the extra.

cheers for that mate. CCE was saying the same thing today so it's looking like a Kilauea more and more.

at 6'6" I'm definitely in the 20" frame department. I loved me Bontrager ( through 5 years and 8 bikes ) but the rot started when I actually measured their XXL frame and found it to be bloody tiny. The 20 Kona were always good looking gates.
