I have a 1988/89 Kona fire

I been inspired spending the afternoon looking at some of the Kona builds on this forum and was thinking about making some upgrades to my bike rather than getting a new one.

Problem is, even though I'm capable with a spanner, I don't know where to start when it comes to bikes better groupset etc but no idea what is compatible with my bike and how to find out. Is there a FAQ for beginners or a good resource for me so start reading?

best wishes

Re:

Whilst Fire Mountains are nice looking bikes, they are budget machines and very heavy. I myself have massively upgraded my 1990 version with a full Shimano Deore XT groupset, alloy bars, lighter seat post and saddle. After throwing lots of money at it, it is still a heavy bike.

I would upgrade the front brake and make sure everything works. New brake pads work wonders. A sealed unit bottom bracket is also a cheap upgrade.
