Kona Faux-splosif - project cancelled

Re:

'90 was the last year the whole range was 1", I think the Hahanna and Fire Mountain were 1" for a couple of years after though. Have a look at the Kona frame spec document in the archive for more detail.

Re: Kona Faux-splosif - new donor bike here...

Yep, 93 the Hahanna and Fire mountain were 1inch,( same frame under the paint) after that everything went to 1 1/8.

I did a similar thing (black paint) for an almost identical but scruffier white Lava Dome. Beware that stock decals from Gil are clear around the 'Lava Dome' writing and need to be printed onto a white background.

Re:

Cheers for the tip. I think I might sell on the Lava Dome rather than spend any more time on it - though I have just bought some Suntour thumbshifters for it  I also bought a Kilauea cheap so I'm going to ride that for a bit instead. :D

That Kila looks pretty 8)

Re:

I raced the Kilauea at the weekend with Mike Muz - what a bike! Very light, handles beautifully and fits me like a glove. In fact I love it so much I've sold the Lava-donor and put my 1989 Explosif up for sale - yes, it is that good! I'll wait for a 1990 Explosif, but in the mean time I have something very cool to ride.

The white finish on the Lavadome was a limited edition run when all the other models, including most Lavadomes, had a splatter finish. I know cause I had one from new.

The stock groupset was Suntour X1, not that that lasted long BITD on mine.

Just realised I bought that bike 25 years ago. Sh*it, I feel really old now.
