The cable guides on the crossbar make it look like a later frame, but I can't see the newer dropouts in that picture

(I'm a newbie, so there's probably lots of other bits I haven't noticed)

Hello and welcome.

I think I'm correct in saying that this is not a Kona.

As you pointed out, all Top Tube routing would indicate '98 onwards, but no steel Explosif frame that I can find has a rear Canti-Stop like that or indeed Rack Eyelets on the Seatsays with that design.

The '97 Lave Dome. Fire Mountain & Hahanna did have Cant-Stops & Rack Eyelets, but of a different design. See Fire Mountain below.

Fluffychicken on here has a repainted 97 explosif and his has the same canti stop at the rear as the one with the ghastly respray, not saying it is definitely an explosif, but i wouldnt rule it out due to that, tis bloody awful though ans its an 18" too!

Yeah cheers for the picture – I did do a search for Fluffychicken’s ’97 Explosif, as it hadn’t occurred to me that the frame on e-Bay may have been modified before the “ re-spray”.

The Seller is claiming it to be an Explosif, but there seems to be too many features from various years - with or without modifications!

The Dropouts with a triangular hole and Rack Mounts feature on the ’92 & ‘93 Explosif, and the ’92 also had the brazed on upper Rack Mounts like the e-Bay frame. Those style Dropouts had gone by ’94 though.

As I previously mentioned, all 3 cable Top Tube routing would indicate ’98 onwards, but then the dropouts are very wrong for that – unless of course the cable stops were also an addition like the Canti Brace before spraying.

I’ll carry on searching to see if I can find a Steel Kona that matches the e-Bay bike that has decals based on a 1997 Explosif.

None of the tube end look round to me. All the Explosifs I've seen have at least one oval tube.

I would say yes it is a Front Mech Cable Roller.
