Kona Explosif 1991

This bike still lives. After sitting for a year unused at the back of the garage (house move and work got in the way) I dusted this off. Stripped, re-greased and re cabled the bike. Built my first wheel. Then took it for a shakedown ride through the park.

The spec has changed slightly from last time. M900 xtr rear derailleur
8 speed wide cassette
M231 rear rim.
Avid v brakes.

It’s definitely not for the purists but its such a fun bike to ride. The new additions make it more usable for me. I need to improve the chain line. Anyone have ideas how to do this? I have ordered another bb with narrower spindles to see if it helps.

The other slight concern I have is the seatpost size. All documents indicate a 26.8 seat post. Even with a beer can shim it feels too loose to me. The cutouts looks to be tapering too much for it to be a 26.8. I think a 27 wold be too large. What do you think? (26.8 thomson post)

I would say that Tange Prestige needs a 27.0mm Seat Post

However, the Kona Spec that I have documented is a little vague, with two measurements- see extract below:

Although this extract from the Tange catalogue shows that the top of the Seat Tube Butting dimension of 0.9mm x 2 subtracted from 28.6mm = 26.8mm:

I can concur as I have the very same year/ colour, and only last weekend trial fitted both 26.8 and 27.0 posts in...the 27.0 won!
