Kona Cinder Cone front mech size ??

Can anyone confirm what size my f/mech is on my 1998 Kona Cinder Cone...

I've read on a sheldon browns site that my seat post is 27mm, if this is correct what size would my mech be ??

Also how do you confirm "top pull or bottom pull" ??

28.6

and if the cable goes along the top tube it is top pull

if it goes along the down tube, it is bottom pull

28.6mm

Bottom pull as the cable runs down the downtube, under the bottom bracket and up to the front mech,. pulling down to move the chain out towards the big ring;

Top pull when the cable runs along the toptube, round the seatpost and down to the mech., pulling it up to move to the bigger ring...

Then of course you have 'bottom swing' which is the 'retro' option where the clamp goes round the seat tube above the level of the big ring - usually midway between the bottle bosses;

...and 'top swing' where the clamp is out of sight behind the rings, much lower on the seat tube...

...both of which can be either top or bottom pull.

Edited for *rse about face content! :oops:

stevo, dont forget modern "dual pull" mechs for extra confusion points!

oh and you have the swing definitions arse about face...

Yes, I just realised that! I was looking at what I'd written thinking 'There's summat not quite right with that?' :oops:

Makes quite a difference if you're searching for a replacement on eBay!
