If you get this for nearer £200 or less then you have a good project on your hands (the 1990 for £400 is ridiculous). It's sitting on crusty (1 original) tyres and everything else including the saddle (that needs total refubishment) looks stock bar the usual. It should scrub up well.

Re:

£250 is probably right on the money for this 1989 cindercone, saying another 89 cindercone sold for £300 a couple of weeks ago and looked more or less the same condition as this one.
As for my 1990 cindercone,£405 with the option to make an offer is fair game really, considering last week the one advertised for £340 with make an offer, sold to someone on here for £300. That by the looks of it had the same condition frame and forks as mine but had the original parts fitted, mine with 90% of the parts being nos makes it that little bit more expensive, but that's just my opinion and i'm not biased about things like that

it'd look different again with a pair of decent tyres on it.

I thought that myself,i took a chance by putting the wild grippers on but always in the back of my mind i thought why didn't i put the Kendas on,for a start there durable
Just had a quick look at the bike and i think some of the problem is nothing to do with the price but i haven't crossed the cables on the downtube, what a school boy error can't believe i've done that again after being told the first time  .
I think i should strip the bike down and rebuild it with spare parts and offer it as lovely frame and forks,BB seems fine (it go's round and round) probably won't be seized but in all honesty i wouldn't know what tool to use to remove it anyway. The seatpost moved the last time i rode it but that was 20 years ago, when me and me mates done a drop off over the steps. After that it's had a easy life buried under stuff i forgot i had, which was buried under some other stuff which i'd totally forgotten about. Other than that all it needs is tyres inflating(should be fine after that, don't worry about the cracks),gears may need resetting, it's been stood a while but 20 years ago they worked fine. Stem moves freely,it moves from left to right but can't work out why it won't go up and down. Possibly they didn't make them that way back then. Other than that,it's good to go.

Edit: the spokes have slight rusting to them but will rub off with wet cloth and the pedals only creak in damp weather, perfect summer bike.

That's retrobiking  :D

Re:

I sold a excellent condition all original parts 1990 cindercone for £200 last year and the one that sold for £300 recently was in better condition that this one with all original parts bar tyres so I think £200 is about right for this 1989 cindercone. I think 250-300 for either a 1989 or 1990 is about tops for these

Agreed and in this market getting anywhere north of 300 it needs to be exceptional.

For what reason,if this is only worth £200 then anything from 94 maybe 93 onwards in Kona terms, when everything was mass produced must only be worth pennys,ie £200 for 1989 cindercone so by 1997 it must only be worth £40 at the most for a full bike because there two a penny and are on the market all the time.
Have you actually looked at this bike, bar it not having a Maximum tyre and they've upgraded the combi mountain LX brake levers and shifters,(which most people did back then because trying to brake with 4 finger levers and shift at the same time was a scary art lol) for Deore ll or DX thumbshifters and some 2/3 finger brake levers,it has the correct chainset because they never came with a mountain LX one,not alot of difference really between the £300 one.

Have a re-read of my first post.

Notice the 'if'.

Apart from the tyre comment, I haven't criticised the bike. In fact:

It's sitting on crusty (1 original) tyres and everything else including the saddle (that needs total refurbishment) looks stock bar the usual. It should scrub up well.

So in actual fact, we're in agreement. It's a good example and should be a good project.

If the purchaser can haggle and get it for under £250 then that's great.
