Klein pinnacle

Hello everybody!

i'm new here, and i'm from France.
Having a bit more time at house, I want to restore my "forgotten" dad's bike.
It's a (1993?) Klein pinnacle, red.

All parts are not original, but make it ride again will be great for me

I found a ritchey stem, I think it's the original one, my dad removed it because it was to long

Nice! Definitely potential there for sure. I have a Pinnacle of the same age and it rides very well.

It looks like a small one to me but I'm sure Klein experts can confirm on here.

There's a couple of members on here who can help with replacing the dead elastomers on the Pace forks. You also have a fairly rare Mavic Seatpost fitted there, so best keep that if you can : D

Salut et bienvenue. Yep, it's a small '93 and without any original parts by the look of it. Should ride nicely once finished though.

There is a very nice mavic seatpost for starters. I suggest go by the standard set by the seatpost. Keep the frame fork headset post and get rid of v brakes, stem, crankset. I would search for a unicrown rigid fork as well. Those pinnacles are my favourite Kleins.

I disasambled the fork, it's in good shape but I have effectively the elastomers to change.

Yep the rear V brake is not original, however my dad bought the bike with front v brakes about 20 years ago. Maybe it was a tailored bike ? (like the pace fork).

You guys find the cantilevers more esthetic ? ( 90's period for sure) Are they really less powerful ?

For the crankset, my dad bought it with this one (maybe the 1st owner changed it.. / or tailor made bike ? )

V brakes are uglyer than cantis. They came about a bit after the golden bling era of mtb AND every vbrake is good so no one needs a Grafton V brake. They are ugly but better.
Your bike was designed for a rigid fork. Susp lifts the front then it changes the head angle and so it rides different. I myself rather have a fat tire and precision of a rigid fork.
I would get rid of the stem asap and place a Ritchey there. NOt expensive and so much better looking. Then i would procceed w/ those cranks and get myself something silver. A new Sugino set. Then i would build a pair of shimano xt hubs on mavic rims and whatever 26x2.2 tires you can find.
