I'm in a similar situation ... my plan is pete_mcc's; It's not damaging and makes the most sense.

the magnet version works very well and is not damaging too. position the frame such that the exit hole is at the deepest point and try it with the cable tip slightly angled. it usually works right away. if not use the magnet.

not saying that the other way does not work but it is certainly more cumbersome.
