Am I missing something here?? £450 BIN seems very reasonable for a NOS Klein frame, based on what complete bikes tend to sell for.

I guess there's an issue with it needing forks?

not any issue, just not old enough to fetch big money. fork is not a big problem. bearings ($38 each) and 1 1/8 reducers ($69) are available through Trek. i had bought that exact frame long ago from Leucadia (they still have two in black for $399) if it didn't have the replaceable rear der hanger and disc brake tabs. just don't like them. otherwise a great frame if you're tall enough.

ps. the head tube would accept the rigid Strata fork but hte geometry is for an 80mm suspension fork and the rigid fork would screw it up. the steerer tubes from Firstflight are NOT suited for that frame, only for the older MC1 frames.

Cheers Carsten- always a great source for info! Yup, later ones don't fetch such big money- hence, Its not such big money!
Question for you though. I'm not familiar with the differences between MC1 and two (or 3 for that matter. .), but from what you're saying I deduse they are different sizes. ..?
And also on fork length, would I be correct in assuming that a strata fork on my own '96 adroit would be too short. .? At what point did the front end geometry jack up for suspension? Info appreciated!

MC1 has 2" bearings top and bottom and thus there's an upper ring style bearing seat on the fork steerer tube. that's the reason why MC1 forks/steerer tubes are frame size specific

MC2 and MC3 have 2" bottom bearing and 1.75" top bearing and the steerer tube does not have a bearing seat - hence the steerer tube can be cut to fit smaller frames.

Firstflight's MC1 steerer tubes with the upper bearing seat at the right end

MC2 and MC3 steerer tube

at one point, i believe in 2001, they introduced the MC3.1. same bearings, stems and steerer tubes but the top bearing is pressed in from the top or the head tube. on MC1-MC3.0 frames the top bearing was pressed in from the bottom.
your frame should be the MC3.1 style. you can tell by looking at the bearing seat. if it is open to the top it is 3.1. if there's a lip at the top of the head tube against which the bearing will rest it is 3.0.

advantage of 3.1 is that you can use the simple but efficient 1 1/8 reducer sleeves offered by Trek. those would work on the MC2 and MC3.0 too but there's a risk that the upper bearing is pushed out to the bottom if the ahead stem is tightened and that the bearing cap bottoms out on the head tube. hence MC2 and 3.0 are better converted to 1 1/8" using the Reset head set.

your 1996 Adroit would still ride fine with the Strata as it has the same geometry as the 1994 and 1995 Adroits and Attitudes. i think even the 1997/98 MC2 Adroits were not changed but i am not sure. specs are in the catalogs. the Strata has 410mm axle-crown distance and hence the short travel Judys did not screw up the geometry much.
