I am starting to obsess over the kcnc v brakes. Are they worth dreaming about or is the reality of ownership a let down. Is there a cheaper alternative!?

Look a bit fragile... :?
If you don't mind the extra calories, I'd go for Pauls Motolites -better engineering IMHO.

i have yet to find a better set up than avid ultimate arms/ xtr levers.

still reassuringly expensive if that helps. ;-)

I don't have experience of the V's but the levers are light for a very good reason. They are tiny....like they have just fallen out of a packet of Cornflakes.
Personally I wouldn't....I have full set of Avid Ultimates which are excellent.
Always fancied trying Extralite stuff too, if you want to spend some money.

Never used Ultimates, but if the (old style) levers are anything to go on, they're superbly designed and built.

I recommend Motolites because they're so simple and light, are precision made with stainless hardware, and all parts are easily replaced. They're surprisingly powerfull too, at least with Love Levers.
..A bonus feature is that the MotoBMX models have enough adjustment to allow 700c wheels to be used on an MTB.

Being a weight weenie.. I have owned a set of these brakes, and have to say that the levers are really flexy, and not really worth the money,, the brakes themselves are ok, but I have owned Pauls too and would recommend the pauls over the kcnc.. I like brakes to work and not just look nice or weigh less.. weight could be save elsewhere.. ;)

Also ask Phil (woldranger) as I think he has owned or owns a set too.. :)

Steinbachs are another weight weenie brake and heard they are not the best stoppers, but cant comment on build etc..

Pauls everytime from me anyway.. .. ;)

origin8's look like copies of the steinbachs but alot cheaper

Have a look on the origin 8 website, can't do links too well from work. They have a set of levers and V's
