I bought this recently as a stolen/recovered bike. I'm in two minds what to do with it, so am really just testing the water to see if I can get back what I paid for it plus the diesel I used driving to get it.
The bad stuff first. The frame was red & blue, but has had the paint stripped off. There's no frame number, but I can provide the purchase details I had when I collected it from the police station. The rear shock moves, but is very stiff both on compression and rebound. There's a rattle in the rear linkage and the front Hope C2 brake does not work- there's a leak in the caliper.
The good stuff- the frame's sound with no dings- it just needs a polish or paint! It's XTR equipped- 8 speed shifters, chainset, front and rear mechs. As mentioned it's got Hope C2 brakes. Forks are Sids and seem fine, although I can't vouch for them as I've not ridden the bike apart from up and down the street. Rims look like Mavic- they're grey anodised, with black anodised spoke nipples and butted spokes, but they're unlabelled. Wheels are true and spin fine and gears work. Hubs are Hope ti with XT skewers. Bars are risers, but I can't remember the make right now.
Here's a basic pic of it:

As far as I can tell it dates to around 1999. I paid £270 for the bike, and £50 in fuel (350 miles in a large van) so I'd be looking at £320 back. I don't know what people think this is worth, so if there's no interest clearly I paid too much! I may split, but I think it would be good as a project.
Feel free to ask any questions.

These are nice bikes and I think the red & blue one was the top end one (I think). It should be pretty light.

If it's crack free then I think it's a bargain, if I could afford it then I would be seriously tempted. I hope someone on here buys it and turns it into a rider.

(you could move the chainset & bb on for £100 without trying if you wanted to)

I'd really like to see it go complete- I'm still tempted to do it myself as Argos are just down the road from me and they'd do a great job with the paint. If I split, I'll keep a note of who wanted what and approach them first.

Do you have any better pics of the chainset teeth, SIDS etc and can anyone fill me in on the era of these things and what they are designed for.
Lot to ask but does look like a nice project and nothing like what I have.

morning- I've just been out to take pics, and realised that the reason the rear shock was stiff is because there's a remote lock-out on it which is missing the cable, and was locked out. Having flicked the lever, it works perfectly, and as this was the main reason I was thinking of selling it I've decided for the moment at least that I'm keeping it. Sorry for any inconvenience- I will start a build thread when I get round to renovating it.
Cheers,
Ben

There's the same frame with paint on ebay and looks identical (red/blue) and mentions the same bushing play and that there is a lock out.
Same none milled out shock connection that the later one's seem to have (from my rudimentary search).
Still know nothing about them

My pleasure to get you to take photo's and keep it. If you where taking them for me :D
