Just when things start going well....

work 29 hours instead,go part time ,pay less taxes, claim for reduced income on council tax and you may find that 250 quid heading back to you,

yup...so long as it stays under 30 hours...there is also the help with pescriptions and dental care too..oh and the added free time you would have..

I've managed to sort things out now, so that at least I don't have to sell the X-Lite.. :)

However, my hours are still being reduced as of the end of this month, so the information that's been provided above has been really useful.

I'll look into knocking my hours down to 29 and I'll make a few enquiries to see where I'd stand with regards to tax credits etc.

Does it make a difference to what I'm able to claim for if my girlfriend works full time?

Thanks :)

You can always buy the bikes again , I got made redundant and lost all my bikes one being nearly 2k of carbon road bike that I think I rode 3 times I was gutted and actually became that bitter I stopped riding for about 6 months with no bikes left to sell

You fight back though ...I actually have a better collection of bikes than I have ever had after working on pee-poor wages for a year. 8)

That's not true he will have to be working at least 30 hrs/wk and 25yrs old+ or have children, then it's 16hr

You and your girlfriend are classed as 'partners' so one of you gets paid it but it is based on both your hours and incomes. assuming one is over 30hrs then the other is irrelevant.

Also confused more by being based on what you earnt last year.
Hour drop might help that, but assuming your other half does't earn a lot you should already be claiming it

Easy check is to tap it into here http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/HomeNew.aspx

i also don't think the NHS exception (at least with respect to WorkingTax Credits will kick in unless Child Tax credits or a disability is awarded.)
As for other reasons to get it I do not know.

-check anything I say with current rules, a Budget was just given or I interpreted it wrong.
CitizenAdvice/Job Centre/Tax Office ....

Either way, in April Tax code goes up so you should be some £200 (I dunno check) quid better off anyway

I have a feeling the upper household limit is £18k for Working Tax Credits
