I keep saying I'll buy a modern XC FS but procrastinating over the decision of which one

A 575, you know you want one

thats one option - although I'd prefer a short travel like an ASR or Tomac Carbide but then everyone keeps raving about the Orange 5. SO you see I'm confused.

May go for an 08 ARC hardtail.

98' Indy Fab my newest but got some late kit on though.
94 Lava Dome my commute and 88' Fisher HKEK nearly finished as my oldest. And a Redline BMX which I forgot, 05 ish

cant remeber top of my head, but easy to find out...... theres a shop in englandshire (sure its mentioned on yetifan.com) selling 07 ASR off for pretty low ££ brand new.
orange5 & ASR are 2 very different bikes. deffo worth test riding. ASR is much firmer, more enduro, xc race faster feeling bike. sub5 is more substantial trail bike, capable of big hits/air/drops & generally more abuse, good climber, feels slower & more solid, mega confidence inspirer, while the ASR is twitchy racer feel in comparision. sub5s & patriots turn up fairly cheap on ebay & with general lack of pivots & things to go wrong easy/ cheap bike to maintain
yetitribe meet is cwmcarn wkend before SSMM with demo bikes to take for a spin if you're interested? (I'm leading the xc rides on both days :D

Its Rutland Cycles.

ASR's are £849 with ARC's £499.

Remember having this conversation with you at cannock Kev.
I loved that ARC I had but felt under biked in wales etc so went back to a bouncy bike.
Was looking for a 575 but went with a titus motolite in the end and its flaming superb! Don't regret it for a second! (and I was very much in the hardtail fan club).

even as a devote yeti lover (bikes not the hairy things   ) I had an 05 scandium ARC that I sold for much the same reason as mentioned above, just felt a tad too fragile for me, probs perfect bike for cannock & thetford ;)

I have my modern ride, and I like it :D It gets used all the time, but I dont spend a great deal on it. My 96 ride is where my heart is, but I like the fact that my 07 ride doesnt need a great deal of maintenance.

credit to you billinjah for floggin your new school ride.

For my sins (should I admit this  ) I have two modern bikes - one road bike and one mtb. Everything else is from the last millenium :D

My modern bike is the one that gets all the abuse, the ten year older beauties are cherished, especially my Pace which I have owned since new and will never sell 8)

I'm in the same boat... Would love a nice new XC FS, but frankly for a retro grouch like me, the choice is bewildering! Wish I had the time to test them all. Life was so much simpler when hardtails were the norm.
