Judy SL dummy shaft stuck

As the title says.. My shaft is stuck!

I'm refurbishing a 96 Judy sl fork and it needs a seriously good clean. The manual says to remove the clips from the stanchions and simply pull the damper and dummy shaft out.

The damper came straight out with a bit of a wiggle. The dummy shaft won't budge.

Anybody have any ideas please? Cheers.

Re:

Remove circlips from bottom, remove top caps and any internals, use a long 3/8 extension with a deep socket on the end slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the stantion to allow free movement inside, tap tap tap and it should pop out, probably just some corrosion.
:)

OK, cool. I'd thought about tapping from inside but was being cautious. I'll give it a go. Thanks!

Re:

If you have something non-metallic to tap it out with I'd use that instead of a socket, just in case.

Bizarrely I've found wooden broom handles slot in nicely and wont slip or miss the intended target and pop the stuck internals out with ease.

That's good advice.

Will PM you in a mo ishaw. :)

Update :

I tapped from the inside and it still wouldn't budge. Then I soaked it in wd40 for a while and warmed the stanchion up as much as I dare, before giving it some sharp hits but nothing...

I also have a 95 Judy XC fork, which I stripped yesterday and that one came apart really easily, so I don't think it's me.

Any further ideas fellas?

Re:

As long as the circlips in the bottom is out, it should move.
I have had some tight ones due to corrosion before but unless there is damage to the stantion it will move.
Think you are going to need a bigger whacking stick!

I've had them stuck before - but that was due to the elastomer melting all over the inside of the station and decreasing the inside diameter

I had to sit the leg on a block of wood with a hole drilled in it across the top of a work bench and with a aid of a socket set extension arm tap/beat the thing out. Once cleaned up it all went back in - the rubber O ring around the plastic Air Seal ring was what was binding the whole thing in

Re:

Right then guys, thanks for your input.

I'm going rig something up to hold and protect the stanchion, rope in a second pair of hands to help and give it some with a big rubber mallet. We'll see what happens. :D

Ps. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! :xmas-wink:
