4130 is bog standard cromoly, one up from Hi-tensile.
As an exercise in tube benders skills, the ti model is quite, err, fascinating, but to try and replicate that in steel is pointless.
How much does that thing weigh, for chrissakes?
A shopping bike for the masses. There's a novelty.

Don't forget these bikes were designed to be rigid "all mountain" bikes not as lightweight cross country racers. Think - rigid all mountain- is a niche market...... maybe the design will also attract some extra customers (it's in the eye of the beholder  )

If you cant afford the Ti version you wont be able to afford the XTR componants to go on the steel one, I think the Ti one with XTR is aroud 26LB? So as you say how much does that weigh, i rekon a SLX finished steel one would weigh in the region of 32LB and thats way too heavy for a rigid bike, if im hugely out please let me know.

mines got a mix of light kit and strong kit, and comes in at 25lbs......single speed ones are around 21-22lb so a geared steel jones will be around 30lbs id say.

TinTin, you wouldn't want one anyway cause they are sussers!

"When I built my first Spaceframe in 2003 I used 4130 cromo."

Looks like the original is now going to be available to us steel lovers!

:)

I am going to guess that the steel aspect will add much less weight than is being mooted.

I would definitely dress one up with a nice group set. It is after all a fine steel bike, and that is what I like! :)
