joined a gym yesterday

If you can do the spin classes a few fit ones go and you cant help but stare at their arses as you do the work out. Oh and you'll blow out your balloon knot the first few you do as well.

Before my illness started I used to go to the gym 4 times a week. A very attractive woman from work used to go with me sometimes. She was always being pestered by blokes interupting her workouts trying to chat her up and staring at her. We had to pretend we were a couple to stop them from annoying her. I didn't mind one bit at all.

Hee Hee.

By the sounds of things I'm missing out not going to the gym.

Our lass thinks I should go running or to the gym with her

Going to build her a retrobike to get out of it.
Good luck with that, I tried it and she's used it once and still asks if I'm going running when she goes out  even though I never have.
I think runnings worse when you're used to cycling as it just seems to take an age to get anywhere.

progress report...

been going every day bar one for just over a week.

had a few days of restricted movement and soreness, aparently caused by shocking muscles into activity. did some research on the net and the general advice was to go back and do it again, i tentatively did so and within hours the soreness ended.

i have changed my diet a bit. still eating the wrong stuff no doubt but small amounts of it. meal portions are reduced, salad increased. had a pack up every day si i dont have an excuse to pop to the spar for a butty and buy a cake!

day one used the treadmill for 15 mins, of which 5 was joggine, thought i was going to die. i am now doing 15 mins straight with a warm up before and cool down after and at a higher pace so feeling results already.

i have a long road to go (start weight was just under 18 stone) but i feel motivated more than ever.

weighed myself last night and i have lost half a stone. really pleased so far.

:D

Well done, that man.

Thing to bear in mind is sustaining whatever you do - so it's natural to feel good and make lots of progress at first - and in turn, that motivates you to probably go a lot.

What's worth bearing in mind, though, is adherence - rather than the first blooms in spring - sometimes it's best to moderate things early on, so that it doesn't become to onerous and fatigue (by that I don't mean physical fatigue, per se, I mean in terms of physical and psychological weariness) sets in later.

It may seem odd, even counter-intuitive - for many, that first initial rush is what they want to capaitalise on, problem is, the weight of stats - and in general, decades of being involved, has shown me that long-term adherence is quite low - so if you can start with a mindset as to how best to address that, you may already be ahead, if you get my drift.

thanks neil, appreciated.

from a mental perspective i have a few friends already at the gym, all are hardcore daily gym go-ers so there is always encouragement.

also the machines all have sky on them - i have found it helps the time go by watching an interesting programme!

i expect teh biggest losses to happen early on - can't really say how that will affect me in a year though.

i think part of the reason i am posting on here is to make it public - i have introduced a fear of failure!

those that ride with me know my body shape and abilities!

hoping to beat fluffychicken (ben) up a hill one day!
