John Squire

Seem to remember Squire was a big mountain bike fan bitd, rode Yeti's I think.

I was lucky enough to see the Roses on their Second Coming tour, Squire was awaesome, must admit to being more of an Ian Brown fan though.

It's not just me then that thought their debut is hugely overrated and that Second Coming was better. Loved the Seahorses too. Good call.

the seahorses were ace. the solo at the end of love is the law is epic 8)

Yup, he had a Fro with a disc drive and Bullseye cranks. I used to see him down by the river in Didsbury and Northenden. I saw the bike in the local bike shop once (Neil Waltons?). It looked well used.

Awesome 8) , already a cool guy but even cooler now :), be great if he'd pick up the guitar again though :(

The Seahorses were great but first time i heard the intro to "Love spreads" i was blown away, "WTF is this" could'nt wait to find out the title of the song, combination of slide, cords and cool blues licks, just a massive sound, one of the best intros ever, not tried to learn it yet, pretty difficult from what i've gathered, would be well worth it though.

Stone Roses were killed off when he went OTB and broke his collarbone iirc...

(From Wikipedia) A major blow was the cancellation of their engagement at the Glastonbury Festival in June 1995. John Squire had suffered a mountain biking accident in northern California just weeks before the show, breaking his collarbone

My fave CD to play through my good system is the remastered Stone Roses with Squire's 500 overlays/overdubs turned down and the bass and drums up....

Musical / artistic genius but flawed as he never liked to share... couldnt but compete with Brown in the writing / vocal dept - hence the mega intricate guitar work on songs, kind of a musical FU to Brown....

The funniest quote I ever saw was one about how when under the influence and writing his mistrust and hatred would flow to his lyrics- my fave example being aimed at Ian Brown in the lyrics of Driving South from The Stone Roses album

"Well you aint too young or pretty and you sure as hell cant sing, anytime you want to sell your soul, I've got a toll free number you can ring"

Classic
