iTunes blues. Lost my music collection. Help!

In one respect I am lucky in than 90% of what is on my iTunes I actually own. This way if I do loose everything I can atleast load it back on again, even if the thought of going through all that again brinks tears to my eyes.

I will get some software in the next couple of weeks and brave it. I'll report back.

All you need is a free program like Sharepod gang. Had the same issue but downloaded this program, transfered my ipod content to it on my new laptop, then sent it to itunes. Job done.

Put itunes on new laptop
Authorise computer for your account
Plug in ipod (don't sync, tick "manually manage music" or similar)
Select "transfer purchases from ipod" in File menu

This is why I still buy CDs. And vinyl.

remove all traces of the itunes program from your pc.

plug in your ipod and make sure the pc sees it as an external hdd

drag the whole ipod contents into a folder and mark it 'ipod music' or something easily identifiable for later use.

set your pc to see hidden files

load itunes

open itunes and your 'ipod music' folder - open 'hidden' music files

drag & drop the contents of each file from the 'ipod music' file straight to the open page of itunes

your music will reappear as if by magic.

dont forget to authorise your pc so you can buy stuff.
