It's the spare parts winter build thread

Re:

Agreed, look's superb 8)

I specialise in slow burner type builds, that die down to a pilot light, fizzle out to a feint peep then get blown out by a slight breeze :)

Re:

Cheers gents. I was a bit embarrassed about the last time I built this frameset up as it never got ridden before I stripped it for another build  (Really need to get a build thread going for the new bike soon).
Rob, channel that anger in to your own build . You'll be glad to know that my parts bin is decidedly empty now so won't be building another for a while. Look forward to seeing the progress on everyone elses bikes now.

Thats cheatin, a parts bin special should be a mix of mismatched stuff that makes up a bike, no a purpose chosen selection of kit that makes it look if that was the intended build in the first place. Nice bike but just too planned for me !
My parts bin special will be doing well if anything that comes in pairs matches
Think I seen a set of forks like that in the Bike station on Friday.

It's all down the quality of the parts bin, velo!

I'll be taking pictures of my build at night. With the camera flash disabled.

Before anyone thinks I'm being grumpy or picking a fight I'm not, Dynacols bike is very nice, his bikes always are !

Its just that to me, a parts bin special, is the bike you bodge together from the leftovers. The bits that were never earmarked for any particular build, the spare tyre here, the crankset there, the pair of handlebars in anodised whatever that dont go with anything, the what was I thinking when I bought that component

So I say to you Dynacol, or anyone else contemplating just another perfect build worthy of Retrobikes show pages, have another look in you parts store and build us a proper bodged monster. I reckon you probably do have some bits and bobs that ordinarily you'd not throw together. Embrace the chaos theory

I don't have masses of spare parts accumulated that I can chose from with the exception of the rear mech and maybe tyres, what I've built is what I've got going spare that I could build a bike with. Sorry if that's not what you wanted but that's what yer gettin from me. If you read zigzag's original brief (see below) i've stuck to the rules and there's nothing to suggest that the bikes have to look like Frankenstein's monster and for me when I build a bike it has to be something I like the look of and want to ride.
I thought this was just a bit of fun anyway, sucks all the fun out of it if we start getting hung up on rules of what you can and can't do. So I say to you Velo, getitupye and Embrace the chaos theory!

"Objective: Build up a bike purely from all your spare parts.
Rules: No buying bits for the build. Although I will let you off with brake/gear cables and chain if you absolutely have to."
