No not Christmas, but a winter cold. (sneezing coughing type)

So my question is when do you get back on the bike? I am pretty fit, putting in three to four rides a week, but I never ride when I am sick waiting at least until the cold is on the wane.

So how about you?

Steven

I'm not a doctor but as far as I understand, if you have symptoms below the neck and/or you have a high temperature then you should rest. Your body is trying to fight off an infection, excerising will put everything under greater strain, raise your temperature further and lower your imune system response. In extreme cases I believe you can even damage your heart by pushing yourself too hard when you are ill.

If it's in the throat/lungs, I rest until I'm just stuffed up in the head, then I'll start riding again, just not too strenuous at first. It's amazing how well riding does in clearing out the nose at that point...

I have backed off it and increased my spicy curry intake. Something about strong chillies just cuts through the mucus

Hubby has had a horrid chesty cough for 3 months, irritating me and his work colleagues, unfortunately for him his bike is his only means of transport, so ill or not he has no choice, but me if there is, rest until your fit.

So, has he been to the doctors? 3 months is not normal!

Yep, she told him he had a cough and sent him on his way, 2 weeks later he saw a different one who sent him for an Xray, that was about three weeks ago and when he's phoned the surgery they say "sorry don't know anything about that, we'll look into it and get back to you" no call, so he calls again "Sorry we don't know anything about it, we'll look into it and get back to you" so it can't have been anything serious or they'd have called weeks ago. True he does feel totally ignored.

Spicy food is apparently a good thing in itself under those circumstances. Apparently various flavour components in such dishes are quite effective at fighting a multitude of bugs - an excellent excuse for more curry*. :)

*Recently sampled some South Indian/Sri Lankan offerings from a York takeaway - very tasty but their definition of "mild" is most restaurants' idea of "hot". 'Phew, what a scorcher', as they say in the world of red-tops.
