Issue with my pannier rack

Hello cyclists

I recently got a Tortec velocity rack fitted to my road bike using P clips, the rack's great but I've had a little bit of a problem with the rack slipping along the adjustment rails and jettisoning my pannier on the road behind me.

I wanted to know if it's ok to move the rack along the rails so that it's in a much more level position opposed to sloping down at the back, would I be able to adjust it without without altering the position of the P clips? Is the adjustability in the rack just for when mounting it to different sized bike frames or is it so you can alter it positioning once it's on your bike?

Position it so it's level.
Making sure you don't have clearance issues (heels!).
Pclip location *shouldn't* be an issue (right next to the dropouts?)

Sometimes worth adding serrated washers/nyloc/thread lock if you run with it loaded.
I've done a combination as mine gets fairly well loaded, is used on gravel roads and is on a fairly racey audax/training bike.

The P clips are only on the seat stays, the bike's '80s vintage so it's got mounting eyelets on the dropouts (sorry failed to mention that). The P clips have a pretty decent rubber sleeves between them and the frame so there's no slippage there.
I did tighten the bolts on the adjustable slide arms in the hope it would secure it a bit better, If I were to level it off a bit more it would mean squeezing the adjustment arms in so a bit so they clear the leg of the rack with the P positioned the way they are on the stays, will that be ok? Can't remember how it went before it slid back off yesterday.



I didn't fit it you see, the guy may have fitted it with those but I'm unsure, I'm picking things up all the time but I've still got a lot to learn that's why I come here for advice from you people who are in the know.

As said set it level and make sure all nuts and bolts are done up tight .
I use loctite on mine . Personal choice .

Also what type of fasteners have your panniers . Click fit , easy to remove
but you have to make sure they have locked into place . Some makes are better than others . Most have at least 3 fasteners at the top and one towards the middle of the stays to stop it swinging.

What brakes have you? I ask because some side pull cable arms can get in the way.

I have used longer bolts to space things out at the bottom . Make sure you use quality bolts in all cases . For the bottom ones I use titainium .

Thanks for the advice I will get on to doing that.

I've been using the type of pannier you mention, where it clips onto the top of the rack and locks towards the middle to stop it swinging about.

My brakes are CLB side pulls, they don't seem to by a problem.
