Castletown I remember was quite interesting, it has a castle. Mind the fishing at Peel harbour was pretty good, right out on the sea wall, bit of a drop on the other side though.

"The Wicker Man" was set on a fictitious Hebridean island, so has bugger all to do with the Isle of Man....... :roll:
And yes, the castle at Castletown is more than worth a visit and so is the House of Mannannan in Peel - it's an excellent way to spend a wet afternoon, as is the Manx Museum in Douglas.
There's not much else in Douglas that I'd bother to go there for - it's by far the least attractive bit of the Island.

The best thing about the IoM, as far as I'm concerned, is the great coastal and hill scenery and the superb walking and mountain (and road) biking terrain. The fact that I can be in the hills in five minutes from my door and often not see another soul all day....

There are far better places to walk than past Jeremy Clarkson's kitchen window, which is why it annoys me so much that this small but vociferous group (PROWL) ultimately managed to cost the IoM government so much money with their long drawn-out and small minded, petty action against the Clarksons, at a time when we can ill-afford another financial burden.

Got to agree with you there Andy from what I remember your never much more than a short way away from lush green country side or rugged coast line. It was always during the TT week that I was there and I noticed how clean the place was very little litter or vandalism very disconcerting
