Is this the the earliest recorded Scottish mountain bike expedition?

Absolutely loved seeing this when my mate sent it to me. I know the Lairig Ghru and the surrounding area very well from riding, wandering and climbing so it's great to see it in a different light through the annals of history. Incidentally, despite much bollocks online, the proper name should really be the Lairig (pass) Rhua (red) as when you're in there the granite scree on both sides of the pass is very red. It's a stunning place, and even in the modern era is a pretty serious area to go into, especially on a bike. Most modern riders would struggle with both the technicality of the riding, and the seriousness of the landscape, especially in bad weather. I don't for a minute think he rode a lot of the pass itself but then when you want to get your rocks off in Braemar and you're in Rothiemurcus I'm guessing a bit of hike a bike is neither here nor there!
