Is this real? Old Lucas lamp?

I don't know, never seen one for sale before. Looks like a good price for a bit of cycling history.

See what you mean now, thanks.

yes, very old bit of tech, think vintage rather than retro. they aren't all that common and I don't think they were back then. Not much in the way of light is cast by them and it was a pretty short overlap between bicycle for the masses and electricity (20 years ish) so you can see why they weren't that common.

My gran had that very lamp on the front of her Crypto Bantam, they weren’t that unusual to see on vintage bikes at static displays but usually taken off for club runs.

The one to watch out for is a Penny farthing hub mounted lamp, these command a really high price.

You can imagine as you picked up speed on your High Bicycle, the clamp starting to bind, the lamp starts spinning in your wheel, you pick up speed due to the almost total lack of brakes... it only ends one way🤣

I found i couldn't hold the speed down on a penny on a 10% gradient, and had to crash deliberately into a parked car to avoid calamity.🙄

You need to spend more time on leg day. :)

It’s a bugger putting the effort in getting up a steep hill to not then get the benefit of effort free descent! A long time since I’ve ridden one but remember the calls of “dismount” for steep downhills on group rides.

My grandad (on his Penny in my avatar) went over the bars after hitting a pot hole downhill while avoiding a collision with a child. He broke his jaw bones and eye sockets. He was in a bad way for some time, still got back on again when he could.

Sorry OP for going off at a tangent.
