Is this bike any good??

That's a better bike, but that is a 'road bike'. Great if you are going to be limited to paved surfaces and you like the drop bars.

For the average person looking for a bike I would suggest a mountain bike. The fatter tires offer a little more cush and you can have a more upright sitting position (if that suits you). The bike can (and should) also be taken on dirt paths and a little mud once in a while.

What is your budget? You don't need that much to get a quality older MTB. Specialized, GT, Kona, Klein, Orange, Gary Fisher are all fondly remembered bikes from BITD but there are a number of other decent options as well. Trek, Cannondale, Diamondback and quite a few other produced a wide variety of decent bikes. There are tons of old bikes out there and some that can be had for a real deal. A little patience can and knowledge can go a long way in finding the best bike for you and your budget.

Where are you looking? Post a couple links to the sources you are using to look for a bike. Maybe others can find something suitable.

I figured it'd be a better bike. But living where I live our roads are mostly subpar (tons of potholes, gravel and packed dirt surfaces, puddles, and so on) so I'll have to rule this bike out. We see very few road bikes around here but lots of MTBs. I only posted the photo to see if some members here could tell me more about it.

I already have a MTB (1998/99 DB Outlook) but find it heavy for my taste. Maybe it's just me getting older. It's also suffering mechanically. I've posted a few pics of it on a separate thread.

My budget is 1,000 MX pesos (about 80 USD). This is where I'm looking:

All I need is a basic lightweight decent quality MTB for personal transportation, nothing fancy. I'll stick to my DB for now until I find a better deal.

Thanks for your help.

I thought they were pivots, my mind is still active, and that's not a bad attempt at a full frame folder instead of the stupid looking brompton bikes made from lead.

Try getting a full-size folding bike onto a commuter train! Horses for courses. I wouldn't fancy 60 mile on a Brompton, but for short hops they are great. Nothing folds smaller.

There is a reason you see Bromptons in cities, they are the best at what they do. Designed for a job.

To use the idiom you are comparing apples and oranges

Its true to an extent.... however I live in a city, and commuted via bike and train for 6months and never felt the need to get one

While for some they may be appropriate given certain needs, I think the majority are purchased for the same reason people buy a Toyota Prius

Yeah cos that looks feather light
I didn't say it looked light, just that bromptons are made from lead and I forgot to mention scaffold poles. This bike here however looks to be made from some special light lead variant, perhaps 90% lead, 10% concrete.

I borrowed a very expensive Brompton over Christmas. I actually did my back in carrying it up my office stairs for 2 days in a row. They are really heavy for something so small and crap handling.... :-( ;-)

Ive always wanted to try and pop a wheelie on one... you sit with your arse right over the back wheel 8)

Opinions on this bike, please. Looks good to my newbie eyes. All I could find online is that's a promotional bike.
