Is there a place for sentiment?

I have had, since bought in 1998, an unhealthy attraction to my Kona Caldera.
Last year I treated her to a complete overhaul using Argos. I went with a new paint job, disc tab, removal of canti studs etc.
Now the bike is fighting fit for another 10 years with me. Of all my bike I would never sell her.
I can understand what John has said but I think it is snobby to rule out renovating a bike from the lower end of the spectrum.
Go do it, speak to Mark @ Argos and he'll take good care of your steed

Seriously though, this bike was free and I've spent less than £60 on it in total.
That said I have spent a fair bit more on an old GT I've had from new, and I'm still hoping to be re-united with the very bike I had back in 1992. (also a GT)
The only thing that's stopping me from buying that one back is the fact that I know that sentiment and nostalgia will drain my wallet while I insist on fully restoring it.
It's the only bike I've ever sold, and now I want it back.
These facts prove that sentiment is dangerous.
I have a 1995 diamond back sorrento - it cost very little, was originally spec'd with acera-x/alivio/altus, and is my favourite machine. It occupies the rarified air where it doesnt often get ridden, but will always be mine... Its as treasured as my bling P7 that followed it, and is my 1st of 2 original 90's MTBs.
This £300 bike has seen me 000's miles, been to uni and everywhere since, and its still here.

Sold my original '90 Clockwork a few years back before I got the retro bug and wish I hadn't ever since. Have another now but it's not the same. Don't let the old girl go!

My mate had one of these Muirwoods, but it was recalled because the day-glo paint was toxic!
If most went that way then yours could be a very rare beast indeed.

I have heard that story a few times now, but google turns up nothing, is it a myth like a Marin Zig Zag, cant find pics of that either,lol
when i got the bike in 91 it had been very badly oversprayed so i nitromorsed everything off in one go, dayglo yellow and all by hand with no gloves or mask, have had two kids so far, and they both have the correct number of bits and peices too
the current paint job is all new and hopefully non toxic.
Muirwoods Fight ,lol, loving the thought, if it was dark mine would win, but i do love the simplicty resulting in elegance IMOof Mr Drystones Build,
oh and errr I'm not saying how much has been spent on her over the last few months, but as said ,other bikes have come and gone without a thought, but i really really couldnt ever get rid of that bike.
Have just bought a Kona Hahanna which is next in line for the treatment, Thanks BKT,

Agreed. I have a '94 GT Karakoram. Had it new, sold it, got it back. It was stolen, got it back :twisted: Sold it again, it's back again. Now though it's just a frame waiting, possibly, to be built again.
It goes but it still has to come back. Lots of memories from a lot of steel tubes but memories, good and bad, are brought back when I see the frame
