Hi all, title says it all really!!

In my quest to find a 1" steerer set of forks I'm struggling somewhat, is it possible to get the steerers in Rock Shox swapped out?

If so can anyone recommend someone or suggest somewhere that will do it?

Cheers as ever guys!

Al

You can get the old ones pressed out and a new one pressed in. I've had a couple done by a member on here who has the right tools for the job. Any engineering firm should be able to do this as well.

It's not impossible, but you would also need a 1" SID steerer plus a shim to fit. Not that easy to find, I would guess. Although Windwave always offered this service for Marzocchis, I've never heard of Rockshox offering it for SIDs.

There's a 1998 SID with 1" steerer on eBay at the moment. Not clear whether it's any good, but I don't think the steerers are interchangeable and 1" steerer SIDs are rare.

Cheers mate, had this one on my watch list although I'm dubious to say the least at the mo. Not a lot of info and it doesn't sound so good. Still watching it though!

Alternatively, Matt is selling a 1" 98 SID that is fresh from a service by TFTuned. More money, but you know it'll be in good nick. Take it, and stop me fretting over whether I should buy it for my Bontrager!

Hi mate, hadn't seen these but I am tempted I have to say! Thing is (and I should have thought of this in the first place, not to sound ungrateful for all you guy's help!) most 1" steerers around are threadless, which then means I have to then change the whole headset etc. that obviously adds to the cost (£20ish plus possible fitting charges at my LBS, cos I've not done it before and I think a professional would be best maybe?).

Then I've maybe got to consider the possibility that adding the fork may alter the geometry/ride of the bike making it less usable for me and ruining it!! Maybe that £150 would be better spent towards a different bike actually designed for suspension in the first place with a newer and more reliable shock? (I hate my brain!!) That way I can keep the P7 as a kind of classic car, to use when the fancy takes me maybe.

Decisions, decisions!! (Sorry!)

Thanks mate, still weighing things up but may well leave the P7 as is, an excuse to get another bike maybe!

Cheers dude, weighing it up really now (is it worth the hassle/expense?) may well get another bike instead!

Use a dremel and cut the crown off the stantions then use a judy bolt on 1" crown (which are easier to find)
