Is it a Hot or is it an Explosif? Nice either way

I've never seen a Hot with Curvy seatstays... :?

The head tube decal is a 96 and the cable stops are from 98 onwards. That's always a bad start. The top tube is a 31.8. As far as I'm aware no Hot had a 31.8 tt, except for a batch of 98 Hots that also had a Columbus Max down tube, which this lacks. Explosifs had 31.8 tts from 98 onwards, but the curved seat stays on this don't look like any 20th century Kona that I've seen. And by 2003, they had disc tabs, so I suppose this could be a 2002 Explosif, if that had curved seat stays like this. But if not that, I don't know what it is. Could be a Lava Dome with a replaced rear end for all I know.

my 03 lavadome looked like that . leedevelopments has it now so have a look at his thread in the -98 section to check

Not a 2002 Explosif, they had ritchey dropouts.

I don't speak German, but isn't he saying it has Ritchey dropouts? If so, I should have realised that means it is indeed a 2002 Explosif, because the stays on yours look very similar.

He does state the dropouts are Ritchey (Ausfallenden), but they are a very different style. The 2002 pictured above look a nicer finish to me with the "hood" style.

Seller explicitly states he cannot verify year or model, would asking him for the frame number be conclusive?

Enjoy!!
