Information wanted on falcon bike...any falcon experts?

Falcon were notorious for just doing what they liked. Whenever we unwrapped one it was always a bit of a Forrest Gump moment (never knew what we were going to get). We also used to buy extra decals when we sold bikes BITD so we could cover up scratces. Typical Falcon paintwork with silver powdercoat and coloured laquer on top.

I didn't realise that. It's mainly logo on forks and seat tube that I havnt seen before.

This is how the bike looks now. Closest I could find to sticker matching and colour is original colour

Hi, just picked up a frame today said to be an early Ernie Clements but it looks more like a Black Diamond by the lugwork and tops of the seat stays. All previous marks removed by previous owner in stripping down a terrible paint job. That may have been how it could have been miss represented when he got it.

Looking over t'internet seems that the Black Diamonds came in many forms over many years the only marking on mine is the number stamped into the BB. M9K25712. It's really neatly done so suspect may not be a frame number. Save for mudguard eyes there are no brazed fittings. It has come with a nasty plastic Selle Royal saddle, Sugino double square taper chain set and Japanese alloy quill stem marked with 79J in small depressed circle towards the bottom.

Sorry haven't figured out how to post any pictures yet but lugs nice and sharp but are only scolloped on the head and front of top of the seat tube.

Any clues or confirmation of what it may be?

Thanks

@adampug That looks very nice :) Don't worry about exactly matching the catalogues, that's the joy of owning a falcon :D

Here's my 70's Falcon San-Remo in pink, complete with a top tube decal that really should be on the down tube and the foil head tube badge on the head tube and on the seat tube.

Hi Gusk

Sounds interesting :) Sometimes you have to have 5 posts before being able to post pictures (anti spam thing).

Black diamonds came in many guises as you say, a Ford Fiesta today is a lot diferent to the one's from years ago. The BB number is probably the frame number as it's not a post code / date of birth / address etc.

To post pics you need the image link in between the two image codes in the full editor. Just highlight the image link and press IMG.

Failing that send them to [email protected] and I'll try and post them up.
