Think I may put a couple of quid on the F1 championship this year for sh*ts and giggles.
Lewis 4/7
Nico 6/4
Daniel 50/1
My money should be on Lewis but the odds on Nico are tempting

If Ricciardo can stay in sight of Mercedes, which is feasible if the Mercs decide to drive into each other again, he could nick it relatively easily with the weird points thing at the final race. Worth a fiver!

Re:

The final race double points makes a mockery of the sport. Why should having, say, a mechanical in the final race possibly determine the result in favour of a driver who has won accumulated less points across the other races?

Unfair, and clear interference in what is already nothing like a fair sport.

Totally agree, makes no sense whatsoever (but as long as Hami wins I will be happy)

In all fairness mechanical failures are rare nowadays. F1 is not like it was in the late eighties, when half a dozen engines, turbos or gearboxes were blown up every weekend and at least one contender for the podium would run out of fuel in the final laps.

It'd be interesting to find out how much the "double points" thing would have affected the championship results of the last 20 or so years.

My point is about more than mechanicals, of which there are still plenty as it happens.

Thing is, your bad luck is always going to happen, but why should it cost you double points if it happens in the last race?

To keep the season "live" to the end of the last race, so the bribing poison dwarf makes more money.

Re:

I can see the little sh!t auctioning off double points races to the highest bidding track before long, just to keep it interesting...

Aaaaaaawwwwwwwww cars are so boring,,,, bring back big turbo,s skirts even four wheels steering tyrells , drivers starting under flags having to run across track to get into cars,,,,turn all aides off show reruns of senna blasting round Monte Carlo before each race on TV.... Now that's a racing car driver!!

I love it hearing all these the "... it was so much better way back when...." comments. It reminds be of being sat with my dad fighting off the food coma after Sunday dinner, curtains drawn and mum complaining about being plunged into darkness on a bright sunny day, watching the GP with the likes of Senna, Mansell, Prost, Piquet et al.....

... he used to moan about how it was so much better watching the highlights on a B&W telly, with Little Jimmy C, Hill, Surtees, Hunt & Lauda et al racing death trap cars

Some things never change I guess
